What you see – A niche lifestyle store, Bougain Villa creates quite a first impression. Started by renowned artist Onjalie Mirchandani, the store is decorated quite tastefully. It is actually in a row house with separate rooms catering to different products. The garden area is the most beautiful with a Buddha statue and a small fountain adorning the corner. When we visited the place in the evening it was lit with dim lights adding to the exotic ambiance.
What you get – The store stocks an array of unique products imported from all over the world like Europe, USA and the Far East. Their bone china dinner ware, fine home linen, decorative handmade glassware, outdoor furniture, lightings, accents, paintings and artifacts are all unique and worth a second look.
In garden furniture they mainly have rattan ware products. There are sofa sets, dinner tables, singular chairs along with vases, planters, Buddha molds, lightings and artifacts. A dining table set could cost about Rs. 38,850 here while a sofa set would cost about Rs. 82,350. The artifacts and the furniture in teak wood are mainly from Far East here. We'd recommend the carved and gilded mirror frames and the serene Buddha statues for your home . They also have floor lightings and beautiful lampshades and Thai flames to accentuate the character of your home. We loved a pair of contemporary chairs in black teakwood that cost about Rs. 27,500 each. They have selective center tables and cabinets available which are beautiful standalone pieces though quite heavy on the budget.
As you turn to the immediate left the dinner sets are displayed. They have bone chinaware in different colors. Some unique pieces include a dinner set of white shells and a beautiful black collection. This room also had some small vases, ashtrays, candle stands and more. Another section is dedicated to paintings, limited furniture and dinnerware. There were some interesting contemporary paintings of human figures by a Thai artist here.
The last room had furnishings consisting of ornate pillow covers and cushion covers. Lot of detailing and embroidery is done on them and these are apt for festive occasions. Scented candles in different flavors like clove are kept in this section too that cost about Rs. 299 each along with little knick knacks for the home.
Our verdict – The store is marvelous and is a one stop for all your interior needs. Mostly frequented by expatriates, NRIs and the socialites of the city the products here are priced on the higher end. But these are unique and are of high quality. Shopping here can be a delight as the staff is very polite and helpful. Parking space is available in the lane.
